The Diagnosis

The Diagnosis

Well… I kind of left you guys hanging, so I’m here to finish the story… sort of. Ironically the story is nowhere near finished even now, but I will at least continue to fill you in on my healing journey and all the twists and turns it has taken along the way.

I ended in the beginning of my sophomore year of college. I had made the decision to exercise a lot more in my second year of college. I had to keep up with all the BYU beauties after all. I was spending lots of time outside, swimming, I’d spend hours at the pool, alternating between sunbathing (stupid I know) and swimming.

Right at the beginning of the semester I began to develop a rash on my face, I kind of wish I had kept a picture, but also have no desire to show anyone what I looked like at the time. The rash seemed to be spreading and nothing I was doing seemed to be helping at all. Unfortunately, due to some other events, which you will learn about later, my memory of that time is a little fuzzy, so I don’t know exactly what I tried before I started to actually be seriously concerned and went to the BYU health center to see if they could give me some answers.

The only answer they had for me was the dreaded “herpes” which at the time didn’t make a lot of sense. They sent me to a dermatologist to see if he could better diagnose me, because they simply didn’t have the answers I needed.

At the dermatologist I got an actual, albeit, slightly incorrect diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Lupus. Now, you should know there are various different types of lupus. This original diagnosis I received was for Cutaneous Lupus. The Lupus of the skin.
