Here We Go Again: Why Do Harassment, Verbal Abuse and a Negative Work Environment almost immediately follow a notice of Resignation?

So, anyone who knows me, know that when I leave a workplace, I try to keep relationships in place for various reasons, the primary reason being, I want nothing but good things for people I have established relationships with.

This last workplace I left, my primary relationships are with girls on my team as well as girls on another team that sits adjacent to us. We have bonded over shared frustrations, including, but not limited to; managers, supervisors, loans that were particularly hard or frustrating and the inability to get answers from anyone who knew any additional information that could assist us in our work.

As more than one of us have prepared to move on from this particular workplace, we have been hit with new waves of sarcasm, harassment and to be honest, abuse. Why?

Because we have found a place to work that allows us to work hybrid or from home completely, pays us competitive wages, and has good health insurance so we can provide for our families and ourselves as we need to? Because we are moving on and they feel stuck?

It feels as though the management team, including supervisors equate moving on with hatred for the team or their positions and immediately start harassing us as employees. I’ve seen it nearly every time. What I can’t figure out is why they don’t want to keep positive relationships with good employees.

Maybe we are harassed in the hopes that we will stay and finish our pipelines or push our new jobs out farther to create an easier transition for everyone? Or are they just to getting their anger out that we don’t have to continue to work for a company that no longer has our best interest in mind? Do they still feel stuck because of tenure and responsibility? Whatever the reason, it creates an even more bitter separation and prevents many of us from giving positive reviews to the company itself, let alone our management team.

Can anyone out there give more information on why anytime someone gives notice the initial reaction is positive, but negative feelings, emotions and a work environment almost immediately come into play within a very short time period?

What’s the big deal? People come and go all the time, why are managers and staff in general getting so worked up about people finding better opportunities?

How can we, as employees remedy that feeling of anger and frustration we are experiencing from our employers? What can we do differently?
