Making Lemonade: Being a Receiver

If I had been told in January I’d be jobless jn December, struggling to make ends meet, I wouldn’t have believed you. Lemons have definitely been the fruit I’ve received from my labors. However I’ve seem something different from this than I’d normally see.

Lemons are fruit. Arent we told we will receive the fruit of our labor? Just because I’ve been handed some lemons as a result of my work, doesn’t mean my work is any less blessed. It may not be the apple, or orange, or pear I wanted as the fruits of my labor, but being handed lemons means I have had to work to make things that normally wouldn’t be my choice work. It means that the Lord trusts me to make hard choices and knows I can make the difficult situations work for my good.

Now, in my religious study experience I am being repeatedly told to be a receiver. I always thought I was good at accepting gifts, or guidance and help. Turns out I’m not. I avidly avoid asking for and receiving help. However, no matter who you are, or where you live, what your religious experience… we all need help at some point in our lives and have to be both willing to give and receive.

Being a receiver allows us to be comforted, our burdens lifted and simultaneously allows others to be able to serve us.

Rest, relax and receive. If you struggle to receive like I do, consider this, how often has Christ asked us to receive Him? Especially during this season, learn to receive when someone offers their help. Let them help you make Lemonade out of your lemons.
