Wow, what an insane year filled with some of my life’s highest highs and absolute lowest lows! But along with all the good and bad times, I have made some absolutely wonderful relationships, as well as strengthened bonds, and let go of ties that were holding me back. Ironically, I feel like everything in our lives needs to go through a spring cleaning at some point. There are people who let you down, and people who build you up, and even people who are in your life for a season to teach you lessons. Probably the best lesson I’ve learned in 2022 is to nourish and grow the ones that keep you buoyant and leave the rest to metaphorically sink away.
The second most poignant lesson I’ve learned is this…when you start doing something without significant effort, it becomes a habit, but when you make goals and plans to create habits, it always feels impossible. I guess the act of doing something to please the crowd feels harder or more forced.
More to the point, last year…. or rather December 2021 I told myself I wanted to start going to the gym regularly… and I went two to three times a week until hiking season began. Why did this work, when setting a new year’s resolution often times doesn’t? Is it perhaps because you don’t think much about a resolution until the day or two before? I have often found that unless you plan, your “dream” or resolution will often fail. What is the popular phrase?? When you fail to plan, you plan to fail?

So, yes, I am setting goals, but I’m not doing it in the spirit of the New Year or to make this year better than last year, or even with the intent of “changing my life.” Instead I’ve decided to set goals in a different way, by just doing the things that make me feel good about myself.
- I want to serve more by going to the temple more frequently.
- I want to get stronger by attending the gym 2 -3 times a week.
- I want to create a more steady income and find more opportunities to show off my skills by finding a job that allows me to express that.
- I want to heal my kidneys by sticking with a plant -based diet as well as I can.
- I want to grow closer to God by reading scriptures daily and keeping track of His tender mercies.
- I want to improve my relationships all around by finding things in common and making memories with those I am connecting with.
- Sharing the things I enjoy, such as cooking/baking/new recipes, writing, painting, swimming with people in my atmosphere.
Which brings me to the name of the blog… I found this recipe on Pinterest and have tried to share it with people who are important in my life who share my interests in food and healthy eating, and why I’m sharing it with you.
Give it a try if you are thinking of changing your diet to support your own goals or even if you are just interested in giving something new a try. Do things that make you feel better, be better and happier even if they aren’t what you are expected to do.
