Don’t Panic

Don’t Panic
Attack your panic attacks.

As someone who didn’t have a recognizeable mental health problem until the last 365 days, it has been quite a wild ride and has taken its toll on my mind (obviously) and body. Since returning to Indiana, I have experienced something called a panic attack a number of times.

I’ve worked with a therapist and done research, and it seems that, while it doesn’t feel like it,  panic attacks can be controlled with time.

Don’t panic.

Do you know what a Panic attack feels like before you experience it?

Do you know how dark it is before depression?

Do you feel the strain of losing someone before you had them?

Does your heart feel like it’s bursting in the stillness?

Don’t panic.

Let your tears fall. Breathe through the panic, let your heartbeat slow. Let your mind “catch its breath.” Treat your body to some stillness.

Let your breath in and out, and your senses know it’s okay to feel unsettled as long as you let go.

Think of beauty, think of peace. Think of what the farthest thing from chaos can be. Retreat to the silence, retreat to the peace. Drink in the beauty and just let it be.
