I’ve been trying to answer daily prompts to get my brain spinning on ideas for other posts to keep the blog fresh and somewhat relevant. The idea of being either only a leader or a follower is fascinating to me.
There are areas in each of our lives where we are definitely followers, and areas in our lives where we are definitely leaders. Do any of you attend church? This is one area we can be both at the same time.
Your place of work is another place where we can be both. When you think of a leader what do you think of? Someone who guides and walks beside? That is what a leader should be. Leaders should instruct, help and guide us.
For instance, if you are with an expert on a trail, what do they call him/her? A guide. Guides take you places but also work with you to help you accomplish goals and build you up to be better. Leaders should embody this.
Interestingly, in many instances being a follower has a bad connotation. Following doesn’t mean being blind. Followers should gather as much information as they can before “following.” Followers are what we are all looking for in our content is it not? But would you want someone to follow you just to argue with every point you make, or to follow you to only try to tear you apart?
Wouldn’t you rather follow someone with the same destination in mind? Consider the message you are sending to others with who you are choosing to follow. Leaders are often made by following the correct path, mindset or destination to begin with. We are all someone’s leader and someone’s follower. Choose wisely.
