A Vintage Smile: Embracing the Oldest Joy
Daily writing prompt
What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?

I hate to be snarky, but how do you write an interesting response to such a question? The only thing I can think of is to make it unique to me. So, I’m going to say the oldest thing I’ve got on today is my smile.

My smile was put on when I was born, and I’ve worn it every day since then with rare exception. And before we argue what vintage actually means, I believe a wise philosopher (Bob Vila) once said that vintage refers to a bygone era. In today’s world of rogue weirdos… yes I said it, I feel much of the experiences in the 80s are not only vintage but lost to the current culture and circumstances of today.

The 80s were full of mystery. Where did grunge come from? Shoulder pads to make women’s shoulders appear to be wider and larger? Hammer pants, which have somehow made it back into style today. We even have the first method of portable music in the Walkman.

So, maybe this wasn’t what you were expecting for an answer today. However, I hope my response has put one of these on your own face and that we can share in wearing a smile as the oldest thing we’ve got on today.

I challenge you to share with me your engaging smile and bring a little more joy into a world full of tragedy and hate.

Great smile. I was once callously referred to by a teacher as a smiling ghost. And it was in the eighties. I wish I could smile like it now. Thank you for sharing.
