Beat the Cold Weather Blues: Embrace Cozy Activities and Comforting Routines

Cold weather can leave you feeling…well cold. Winter is when many people experience what has come to be known as the cold weather blues. The lack of sunshine, and colder temperatures makes it harder to get outside, which has been proven to boost your mood and even pull people out of a depressed state.

However, as most writers, I love to read and cold weather is by far the best weather to curl up under a blanket and sit around with a good book. Cold weather brings snuggles, blankets, hot chocolate or tea and even home baked cookies and bread. Soups are more plentiful, and you can even try your hand at some pretty thrilling outdoor activities in order to get in your daily dose of nature.

Skiing and snowboarding have never been in my repertoire even when I lived in the greatest snow on the earth. (Utah). But even as a kid in Indiana we built snowslides (wet snow works better) and snow people.

I am a hiker, and I always wanted to try snow shoeing but never made it out to give it a shot. That’s still on my bucket list.

And, let’s be honest, the best time of the year (fashion wise) is boot wearing time. Boot wearing weather allows us to bundle up a and layer up. We can hide our little pooches and find comfort in a giant hoodie. And let’s be honest, in the name of public decency, layers should absolutely not always be removed when the weather is too warm or even hot.

Lastly… for those of us struggling with neuropathy I realize this time of year can be especially difficult as we struggle to keep our extremities warm. Get in your warm bath, and pull out your fluffy bathrobe and fuzzy socks and you’d be surprised how much warmth you can hold onto.
