In reality, most of us can live completely internet free. We have just become so dependent on it for our entertainment we don’t know what else to do with our time. I immensely appreciate my time away from my phone as crazy as it sounds. I take it with me everywhere still, it is a tether to others. However, that tether, like all tethers much eventually be pulled and we must disconnect and allow ourselves to re-charge without the constant stimulation of the internet.
I find that I know it is time to detach, unplug or just walk away when I find my mind being consumed and overwhelmed with the data being presented. My mind usually feels like its running in circles, and I get anxious and overwhelmed, which is unusual for me.
My eyes start to burn or get blurry and my whole body feels exhausted.
Detaching or unplugging from the phone or computer is something I try to do daily. Whether it is done through reading a book, taking a walk or playing with animals, or even having lunch or dinner with people (yes that can be done without a phone).
Unplugging in my opinion is essential for our minds to have a break and go back to the real world. For a time in my career, I experienced significant blurry vision, and I feared that due to my health issues I was losing my vision. It turns out my eyes just needed a break from the constant screen time. I started taking walks during my day, finding points away from the screen to focus on for short time periods and found that most of my vision issues were from eye exhaustion. I have since allowed myself the freedom to stand up and walk away more frequently, especially when something is frustrating me. It allows me to relieve some of that brain and eye exhaustion from constant stimulation and to experience a small fraction exercise by moving about more.
What can you do to relieve yourself of the hours of screen time the majority of us experience each day?
Comment and tell me what you do to experience the unplug. Do you write in an actual journal? Sketch, read, take a walk? Eat a meal with friends?
