I can’t choose just three books that have impacted my life, but if I HAD to pick three I’d start with the Scriptures. I don’t read them as much as I should, but every time I do I feel an overwhelming sense of peace.
A second book I found very impactful, that I have mentioned a few different times on this blog is The Power of Fun. How to have fun and feel alive again. She talks about the difference choosing to do something different and scary and ultimately fun can make in your life. I read it and was thinking about it for days. It had a unique impact on my life. I love her perspective on play and how it has so much more to do with our happiness than we give it credit for. She talks about how, even though we associate play with children, when we, as adults, lose our ability to enjoy play is when we are choosing to be miserable.
Another very impactful book that I don’t talk about a lot, but it is one that I couldn’t imagine would not impact someone’s life profoundly is Humankind: A Hopeful History.
This book speaks about how our innate humanness is a true connection in a world filled with divisions. It speaks to the idea that no matter your history, your culture, nationality or religion we are all just a bunch of humans trying to find our way through life. It is a great read if you are looking for a book with a little more kindness than you see in the world currently.
I could go on and on through the books that have kept a nap corner in my mind, but it could take me a while to get through them all, so I’ll follow the prompt and keep it at three for now.
