Creating Core Memories & Serving with Purpose: bringing about the return of little glimpses of light.

You know those core memories? The ones that will still stand out in your ancient years. I was able to make some recently on a trip to Utah and the Grand Canyon with my neice and nephew and I hope these are the memories that a TIA or a stroke can’t touch.  I’ve lost a lot of memories throughout the years due to mini strokes and a few TIAs, and every time this happens I wonder what else was lost. Which is much of the reason I keep this type of journal. Many people ask why I am so open and share so much with people I don’t know. I do it so I remember more of the details.  The small moments where I felt broken or healed and how my body teaches me what fear and faith feel like. I share it so I remember when I look back that a decision brought me joy or peace or pain and suffering. If we aren’t recording these moments, how can we expect to remember them. The magic, the pain, the peace, and feel the influence of divinity.

The greatest part about these memories we make are the power they have to change the way we look at things.

I was struggling with connection before I went out to visit. I’m still struggling but it doesn’t feel as heavy because I now have the power of friendship and connection of those who reached out and connected with me to carry me and buoy me up a little longer. These real, meaningful, very human and raw emotions can be overwhelming, but the connections of lasting friendships thst extend beyond belief systems, borders and the boundaries of our imaginations can carry us through the darkest of our days til with courage we can extend our hand to the everlasting source of light

I was also able to participate in service today. As a women’s group at church we tied blankets for infusion patients and focusing on something other than your own problems can add additional peace and comfort and I felt that today as I served. Knowing we are working for a cause beyond our own allows a little additional light to break through those cracks we have in our “I am woman, hear me roar ” armor and recognize our intimate need for connections that last.

Service can also give us a sense of belonging as you work with a group of people with a common goal.

If you are struggling, I urge you to try serving. It helps me, whether it is as small as picking up bottles on the side of the road where I go on walks, or it is making blankets for infusion patients.   I promise it will lift your spirits.
