What is life without Music?
Daily writing prompt
What would your life be like without music?

Music is life!

Music is literally in everything we do. If you turn on a tv show, you may not notice it, but music is usually playing in the background. I like the TV show Bones, and it is playing in nearly every scene. Background music is generally classical music to notate the mood without words. The music chosen in each scene emotes the type of atmosphere and experience you should feel in that particular scene.

Beyond TV and movies though, music invades every part of our lives. From slipping on headphones as we head into the gym, to rolling the windows down and singing as you drive down the street. Music is a beautiful way to soothe, preach, show love and even showcase anger, frustration or fear.

Finding music that meets your needs is an individual pursuit. Tastes in music don’t have to align with anyone else’s and can develop and grow as your personality, needs and desires change and grow.

As a teenager, I was obsessed with boybands, but now I have moved more towards acoustic music with beautiful rhythms, soothing melodies and fresh lyrics that speak to where I am on my journey towards health, well-being and employment. Many of my choices show my emotions towards un-employment (anger/frustration), health (soothing and highly emotional) and spiritual improvement (worship songs).

Some of my favorite songs currently are Banks by Need to Breathe, which is one of my soothing songs that talks about someone who is there through everything just for you. That person is your steady place in the rage of a river.

Be Right There

Bruises by Train and Lease on Life by Andy Grammer are other favorites because they talk about how we are all broken and have bruises and how we can heal by sharing what has bruised or broken us with others.

My go to angry song is Be Right There, by Fly By Midnight. I don’t know why. This isn’t an angry song, I think it just hit me at a time that I needed it. It actually leave me feeling quite at peace now when I listen to it, maybe becuase it was there when I needed that soothing presence.

My go to worship song is either Peace in Christ By Kenna Childs, You Say by Lauren Daigle, or Blessings by Laura Story. These songs talk about where we can go when we are struggling and I feel like they have helped me many times when I thought I’d hit the bottom, but realized I was still falling.

Another thing that helps me a lot when I’m feeling strong emotions is writing, and many of the lyrics on my Lyrics page have been written when I was in a hard place and neeeded an escape.

Are Your choices in music, an equal reflection of your emotions, well-being and inner turmoil, similar to me or do your music choices mean something else?
