Five Fun Activities to Brighten Your Days

List five things you do for fun.

Take a Hike

Oh my goodness, I’ve been looking for a reason to find my happy place. It doesn’t seem to matter where you live in the states, the entirety of it is frozen, or on fire. I live in the frozen section, and boy am I over it. Frozen, with little to no sunshine has left me feeling a little down in the dumps. Fair warning, I am going to try to use as many catch phrases as I can in this post, just for kicks and giggles. Anyway, back to the reason for the post, what do I do for fun?

When I lived in Utah I LOVED to go up to the mountains and go hiking. Of course, I wasn’t as good of a hiker as all my friends, but boy did I find peace and joy in the mountains, despite the pain.

Since moving back to Indiana, I still LOVE being outside. but I do find it harder to enjoy hiking with the extreme humidity in the summer. Especially with the havoc it wreaks in my body.

Let’s go Swimming

Another thing I have come to enjoy in recent years is swimming. I mean, I always loved to swim, but in the extreme heat of Utah and Indiana summers I find myself longing to be in the water. I find that it doesn’t much matter what body of water it is. We went to Lake Michigan this summer and, while it was cold, I stayed out in the water for hours and swam. I can’t get enough of the water. It feels good on my joints (Lupus) and my soul loves soaking in the sun. (Yes, I know. not good for Lupus).

College Sports

Okay, this should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows me, I LOVE college football and college sports in general. If I have a free day, the remote and channels, I wiill waste so much time watcghing just about every close game I can find. I do enjoy professional sports as well.

However, I find myself rooting much harder for my college team than a team that my uncles like, or I should like because I live in the state the team is found. I find a greater connection to my Alma Mater.

Read, Write & Language Learning

Another thing that anyone that knows about me, would quickly discover is that I love to both read and write. My writing is obvious here, but I am constantly thinking of short stories and ideas I can write about. Whether I dream them up while I’m asleep, or during a rare moment of genius, I have always loved to come up with new ideas to keep my mind active.

I am one of those girls who reads like 5 books at the same time. I think I am probably undiagnosed ADHD with how many things are going in on my head at all times. Which is why I am also learning multiple l languages. I don’t know how it works out so well, refreshing my Spanish, learning Portuguese and Haitian Creole has been an undertaking that I am very serious about. The awesome part is that I have loved learning these languages in more depth. It makes me feel like I can do hard things again, even if I can’t seem to get full-time job. Comitting to something like this, helps me understand that I’m not broken.

Gym Time

Another thing that has been a huge benefit to me lately, especially with this horrible weather is the gym. I used to go to the gym every day when I lived in Utah and I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I was able to get back to it.

Well I believe I’ve outdone my five things, but I won’t lie it feels good to focus on things that bring me joy, especially in the middle of this cold, dark and dreary spell.
