What Home Means: My Dream Space
Daily writing prompt
Write about your dream home.

I find this prompt to be a little ironic with the category of people generally blogging on a regular basis. Many of us are 30 somethings who may not yet,or ever own a home because of the financial climate in which we live. This doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t want it, like many people have begun to believe. Instead it means we have spent our savings on college and are stuck in jobs we weither hate or that don’t pay us what we are worth, so out dreams are on hold. Dream homes have taken on a different form for us. Many of us are living mobile. In old campers, or busses, re-done to create small living spaces that can travel with us.

Many of us have also had to give up our independence and move back into our parents home in order to survive this period of inflation and outrageous living costs.

Home can be a safe space. Home can be a church, a person or even a situation in which we feel safe and loved.

So, what is my dream home? My dream home is a space I can feel myself and the freedom to be who I am without expectations, shame, or guilt surrounding the choices I make. Home is understanding that dreams aren’t the same for everyone.

Home is health. Home is clarity. Home is a garden and a dog who doesn’t care how crazy my hair is in the morning. Home is quiet. Home is dancing in the kitchen and singing at the top of my lungs while I make dinner for myself or friends and family. Home is safe.

Maybe one day home can be an actual reality. 4 walls, windows and a roof, but for now, a dream home is just that. A dream.
