October – Off the Beaten Path

It has definitely been a weird month. It started great with General Conference, a Conference held by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where we hear from God’s prophet and get personal inspiration for our lives. The next weekend was a **cold** camping trip to Bryce Canyon National Park with a great friend Sarah June. I went to Idaho for the third weekend where everything seemed to fall apart. I received call that I was let go on Friday morning and my whole team along with me. That was devastating to me at the time. However, with some distance I’m able to see that while it hurt and the reasoning is still faulty in my opinion, it was for the best. It allowed me to experience a period of growth that was different than other growth periods in the past.

I immediately had the thought that I needed to open up my Rover app to see if I could get some more clients. I have been dog sitting non- stop since updating the app. I also was inspired to open up an Uber Eats profile and do some deliveries, which seems like a silly “inspiration” but I believe these two things have kept my hope alive even when it feels impossible to get a good paying job so late in the year.

Now? I may have a job offer, but I may also be considering finally writing my story in book form and selling it on Amazon. I guess walking away from the corporate world for even a time has opened my eyes to way of living that unties me from a 9-5 job and allows me to live with a different freedom that a paycheck doesn’t offer.

Of course, a paycheck is required to continue existing and even to die in this modern world, and living without one for a time has risen my stress levels to a new high, which I fear may be leading to a flare. However, spending 12 hour days working 5 days a week would have also led me to the same place.

In order to keep myself in a place of relative peace, and assist in the release of anxiety I finished a book, (nothing like taking you out of your own world), doing 1,000 piece puzzle with my roommates and have been spending time with some real cute puppies, including lots of time hiking around a dog park.

If you have a way to escape, whether its reading a book, doing a puzzle, watching a movie, going on a drive , listening to or playing your favorite music, going on a hike or gaining some endorphins from being around dogs and other animals. When you are feeling stressed, finding a healthy outlet is a great way to reduce some of that stress and avoid a flare-up or hospital stay. What are some ways you help yourself relieve stress?
