Okay, I’m posting this in the hope that some of you out there are small business owners. I am in need some tips, advice, etc. With the economy being what it is, and some health issues, I”m struggling to find a full-time job. As a result, I am very seriously considering starting my own business, and I’m using a manual that I found with a lot of the common starting a business practices and procedures, but I do have some questions.
What is one thing you didn’t expect when you started your own business?
How do business taxes work? Is it based solely on the number of people you employ? For instance, I am thinking of being the sole proprietor. Does a business type change as you grow? Indiana offers a tax free year as a business, if my business can be done in any state and I move do I need to re-license in the new state? It seems like this is an obvious answer, but please forgive me ignorance when it comes to opening a business.
Does an LLC registered to a business name other than your own actual help if you are the face of the business?
I am considering adding more as I go, (i.e products in addition to services) is this something I need to do at the jump? Does it change the type of licensing I need if I change from services only to products and services?
These are my initial questions, I will keep this thread and ask more as I think of them. If anyone knows any of these answers it would be greatly appreciated.
